Random Thoughts from a Random Mind

In depth thinking in a world of chaos can result in a major headache. A few times a year I treat these headaches by listing some of my random thoughts that are usually anything but serious. Today is one of those days. To affirm for myself that my mind is not the only one with random thoughts or comments, I will begin this article with a snap shot from my college days during a class.
In 1967 or 1968 I was enrolled in a European History class at Baylor University with Robert Reid as the professor. He was a great teacher in every sense of the word. In a large lecture hall to accommodate the huge class, Professor Reid was describing in detail the invasion of Gaul (France) and Italy by Attila and the Huns. Outside there was a Texas thunderstorm brewing. As he reached a climax about the battle, the lights flashed off and on from a quick loss of power and a loud crash of thunder shook the building. Professor Reid immediately screamed at the class - "GET DOWN! THE HUNS ARE ATTACKING!" A few screams and a lot of laughter filled the room. The lights returned. And without a break he simply continued his planned lecture. By far, this was the most singular random moment of my college career.
So what is floating through my mind during these last few days? Some of these are reflective of my life experiences and some are signs of sleep deprivation. You will have to decide which because this is not to be consider a resume of confessions.

There is a big difference between concern and worry - concern can motivate you to action; worry can only depress you.
A candy dish on my desk reminds me - I'd give up chocolate, but I'm no quitter.
"An excellent wife who can find?" (Proverbs 31:10) I am thankful that I did.
Don't give up on trying to find good books to read - the Bible contains 66 of them.
Here is one last random thought that just popped into my head as I was completing this lengthy list. Aren't you glad this was only a list on my blog of my random thoughts rather than a 20 point sermon with exposition, illustration, and application with each one? Now there is a thought for you to consider this week as we all deal with the pressing issues we will encounter.
Thank you Lord for moments of rest and laughter and randomness. Thank you also that in all the serious moments of life You are the one in control, who gives strength and direction, and keeps reminding us to follow You.
