There Was a Time!

THERE WAS A TIME

when words kept violence at bay,

when words were spoken in truth,

when words were the value of a man,

when words brought resolution and not war.

THERE WAS A TIME

when decisions were made by a game of rock, paper, scissors,

when decisions were made by a mark on a ballot,

when decisions were made by a treaty or covenant,

when decisions were based on trust.

THERE WAS A TIME

when schools and neighborhoods were safe places,

when security was a closed door,

when people walked fearlessly at night,

when newspapers focused on sports and comics.

THERE WAS A TIME

when guns were used to put food on the table,

when guns were for sport and not for death,

when guns were kept secured from children,

when guns were used to enforce the law, not break it.

THERE WAS A TIME

when faith was strong and the church was full,

when faith impacted what was thought and done,

when faith was more than just a word,

when faith truly was in Jesus.

THERE WAS A TIME

when I was young, a time long gone by,

when I was taught right from wrong,

when I knew that life was sacred,

when I knew that the future was bright.

THERE WAS A TIME

when I wondered what I would do,

when I hoped to make a difference,

when I believed that man was good,

when I realized the power of evil.

THERE WILL BE A TIME

when evil grasps its final breath,

when mankind lays aside its hate,

when Jesus breaks the morning clouds,

when victory is once more proclaimed.

THERE WILL BE A TIME

when once again I see a day,

when joy and peace and hope will be,

when we allow the Lord to reign,

when we all bow down and call Him King!
